In the coming week, numerous travelers are poised to face disruptions as ground staff across major Italian airports plan to strike due to concerns regarding pay and working conditions. On Monday, January 8, baggage handlers at Milan’s primary airports, Malpensa and Linate, will cease operations. Concurrently, security staff at airports such as Venice and Rome Fiumicino are also set to strike, potentially causing delays throughout the entire national air network.
Passengers relying on Malpensa and Linate airports are urged to verify the status of their flights before commencing their journeys. Ita Airways, the flag carrier, found itself compelled to cancel 20 domestic flights scheduled for Monday.
In response to the situation, the airline issued a statement, asserting, “The company was forced to cancel 20 national flights on Monday while managing to guarantee all international flights.”
To accommodate affected passengers, the carrier emphasized that in case of flight cancellations, individuals will have the option to alter their flights at no additional cost or receive a refund, with the deadline for these actions being January 12.
