Bonza has announced Launceston as its newest destination, with year-round direct service from the Gold Coast beginning in November.
Flights start at $79 per person (one way) on the Fly Bonza app.
It is the low-cost airline’s first port in Tasmania, and it adds the 34th route, 18th destination, and fourth State or Territory to Bonza’s expanding route map.
Australians can fly directly between the Gold Coast and Launceston three times a week, on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, beginning on 21 November 2023.
Bonza Chief Commercial Officer Carly Povey said today from Launceston Airport that the new service was another example of how Bonza is bringing its vision of connecting communities to life by focusing on unserved and underserved routes.
“Today is a Bonza day for Launnie and Goldie locals who can now enjoy more of their backyard with direct flights that don’t cost the earth,” said Povey.
“Since our launch in January, travellers have been requesting flights from Launceston on our social media channels, and we are delighted to deliver today!” “The good news is that over 11,000 Tasmanians have already downloaded our Fly Bonza app and are ready to go!”
This fresh new low-cost route will be the first to run year-round, opening potential for tourists and trade in both cities.
“It’s great news for Australian tourists and the many small and medium-sized businesses that comprise the local tourism and hospitality industries.”
Launceston, a UNESCO City of Gastronomy, and a gateway to natural wonders such as Cradle Mountain, is the first location added to Bonza’s network outside of Australia’s East Coast.
“Our strapline is ‘Here for Allstralia,’ and today we take another step towards fulfilling that promise by launching our first destination beyond the many incredible East Coast locations we serve.”
“More destinations will be added to Launceston’s and Bonza’s overall route map in the future.”
“We look forward to revealing what’s next when the time comes,” Povey added.
The announcement was welcomed by Launceston Airport CEO Shane O’Hare, who stated that Bonza’s presence would bring significant advantages to Tasmania.
“Bonza is doing things differently, and by providing direct connections between new parts of the country, they’re making it more affordable for Australians to explore their backyard,” said O’Hare.
“These year-round services will make it much easier for Tasmanians to enjoy Australia’s favourite holiday hotspot, but they will also welcome thousands more tourists from south-east Queensland and northern New South Wales.”
Launceston is one of Australia’s top city break locations, and as the entrance to many of our state’s magnificent natural marvels, we are happy to be Bonza’s Tasmanian launching pad.”
