Emirates is soaring to new heights with the announcement of an ambitious retrofit plan for an additional 43 Airbus A380s and 28 Boeing 777 aircraft. This move is part of what the carrier dubbed the “largest known fleet retrofit” project, initially unveiled in August 2022, which will see 191 aircraft receiving luxurious upgrades.
The retrofitting process began with the A380s in January 2023 and has already seen 22 superjumbos revamped. The first Boeing 777 is set to undergo a transformation in July this year, featuring a refreshed first-class cabin, new business-class seats arranged in a desirable 1-2-1 layout, and the introduction of 24 premium economy seats. This enhancement comes at the cost of removing 50 economy seats to accommodate the premium economy section.
Upon completion, Emirates’ retrofit project will boast 8,104 premium economy seats, 1,894 refreshed first-class suites, and a comprehensive upgrade of 11,182 business and 21,814 economy seats. The premium economy product, which will be gradually introduced across the fleet, is now available on select routes, including flights from Dubai to major global destinations such as New York JFK, Los Angeles, and London Heathrow, among others. Osaka will join this list in early June.
Furthermore, the airline’s upcoming A350 aircraft will also feature premium economy from their delivery in September this year. These new aircraft will initially serve nine routes, including the resumed Edinburgh service in November.
Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, expressed his unwavering commitment to the project: “We’re topping up our multi-billion dollar investment in the retrofit program to introduce cutting-edge cabin products on more of our A380s and Boeing 777s, demonstrating a clear commitment to elevating the customer experience with a best-in-class suite of products across every cabin.”
The retrofit signifies Emirates’ dedication to providing a superior travel experience, ensuring that more customers can enjoy the airline’s premium offerings across its fleet.
