Journey Beyond introduces a new style of rail travel: Gold Premium

Journey Beyond has announced the on-sale launch of Gold Premium, now available to book on The Ghan and Great Southern for 2024. Sitting between Gold and Platinum, Gold Premium is more than a cabin – it’s a new style of travel with premium inclusions paired with contemporary Australian cabin and carriage designs. Journey Beyond appointed global design firm Woods Bagot to deliver interior design that incorporates a true sense of place, an important element across Journey Beyond’s experiences.

Woods Bagot has had an association with the trains since 2019, when they executed an upgrade to the Platinum carriages across the train fleet. With Gold Premium, the design firm has crafted best-in-class accommodation, where the colour palette draws inspiration from the rich colours of Arrernte painter Albert Namatjira’s stunning landscapes. Think walnut timber and polished brass detailing, along with Indigenous prints on the upholstery that draw the connection to the Australian outback. Within the Gold Premium Twin cabin, there’s high-quality linen, ready for the comfortable lounge seat to convert to a sleeper each evening; premium amenities within the en-suite bathroom; and a few special surprises to delight guests throughout the journey.

There is also a Gold Premium Suite option. This cabin type comes with the same benefits as Gold Premium, but features a little more space to move around in. The cabin has a three-quarter-size double bed plus a fold-down upper berth and a lounge area.

Both Gold Premium cabin types include exclusive access to the Gold Premium Lounge, the social hub on board. The new-design lounge features luxe leather banquettes and swivel chairs, with mood lighting creating an elegant ambiance that references the romance inherent in train travel. It’s here that guests can sit and sip on a range of premium beverages.

Then, there’s Gold Premium Dining – a feast in multiple ways. The contemporary carriage design respects Art Deco, providing the setting for carefully curated meals. The hearty breakfasts, two-course regionally inspired lunches and delectable four-course dinners served here feature the finest ingredients from local suppliers, farmers and providores. Naturally, the accompanying wine list includes a selection of premium wines and beverages.

Gold Premium highlights include:

A newly designed, contemporary cabin that converts from a lounge by day into sleeping berths at night
Exclusive access to the Gold Premium Lounge and Gold Premium Dining
Two-course, regionally inspired lunches and four-course dinners
All-inclusive premium Australian wines, beers, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages
Premium amenities, luxuriously soft linen, silk eye masks
All-inclusive Off Train Experiences and preferences on tour selections
75kg checked luggage allowance per guest (3 x 25 kg each)
Priority luggage check-in on departure

Gold Premium is available on The Ghan and Great Southern rail-only journeys, as well as a number of Journey Beyond’s most popular packages, such as Red Centre Spectacular and The Ultimate Territory Tour, which include small-group touring with Outback Spirit.
