San Antonio International Airport (SAT) announced its  eighth nonstop international destination today: Torreon, Mexico (TRC). Viva Aerobus, Mexico’s  ultra-low-cost airline, announced it will begin flying to its fifth Mexican city from SAT on June 1,  2024. SAT will be one of only two U.S. cities with nonstop service to TRC. Viva Aerobus also  announced it will increase its popular nonstop service again from SAT to Leon/Guanajuato  (BJX).

“The addition of Torreon is a strategic decision when it comes to both business and leisure  travel,” said Jesus H. Saenz, Jr., Director of Airports, San Antonio Airport System. “Until now,  travelers would drive nearly nine hours or take a connecting flight, resulting in 5-6 hours of  travel. This new service helps to connect people involved in silver refining, automotive parts and  electronics industries to Comarca Lagunera – known as the ‘region of lagoons.’ It’s also a  popular destination for many San Antonians with friends and family there. Now you can find an  affordable fare to make the trip down from San Antonio – in less than two hours.”

Here’s what to know about the new Viva Aerobus nonstop from SAT to TRC:

186 seats on A320 aircraft
Flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays
Depart SAT at 12:20 p.m.; Arrive at TRC at 1:00 p.m.
Depart TRC at 2:00 p.m.; Arrive at SAT at 4:40 p.m.

The increase in service from SAT is as follows:

From 3x to 4x weekly to BJX in June, following an increase to 3x in March

Viva Aerobus also offers nonstop service from SAT to Monterrey (MTY), Mexico City (MEX) and  Queretaro (QRO).

“This is a very exciting day for Viva Aerobus, as we continue to expand our low-cost, nonstop  service in the Alamo City,” said Juan Carlos Zuazua, CEO of Viva Aerobus. “A few days ago,  we announced new flights from San Antonio to Queretaro and, today, we are adding a new  route to Torreon, Coahuila. This new route will contribute on more trade, leisure, cultural and  educational exchange between Torreon and San Antonio.”

Saenz said the growth of air service at SAT is evident and encouraging for many reasons.

“We are constantly working to build up our list of nonstop destinations – domestically and  internationally,” Saenz said. “This has been a record year for us. We had more than one million  passengers in July. It was our busiest summer ever. Now even more people will experience an  authentic and elevated travel experience by flying into and out of SAT. We’re ready for that –  and we’re still making big strides when it comes to getting even more nonstop flights.”

Torreon is SAT’s 44th nonstop destination. The airport’s other seven international destinations  include: Queretaro, Guadalajara, Leon/Guanajuato, Mexico City, Monterrey, Cancun and  Frankfurt, Germany.
