With nearly 40,000 Americans living in Spain, the Mediterranean country is a no-brainer for many due to its weather, culture and overall quality of life. But which areas have the highest American population? The experts at Moving to Spain have carried out a new study to reveal the 10 Spanish areas with the highest US populations.

The research analyzed factors such as the number of American expats in each Spanish province, and the number of US citizens per 100,000 residents in those areas.

The research revealed:

Madrid is the province with the biggest American population, with a total of 11,570 Americans. It also has the highest number of Americans per 100,000 residents, with a total of 171.

Málaga ranked second, with an American population of 2,692 expats and a total of 157 American citizens per 100,000 residents. Barcelona rounds out our top 3, with American citizens making up 142 per 100,000 people.
